Laura Skaer American Mining Executive Director to Testify Before Congress

Laura Skaer, Executive Director of the American Exploration & Mining Association (AEMA) will testify Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at the U.S. Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources oversight hearing examining the Presidential Memorandum issued on November 3, 2015 entitled, “Mitigating Impacts on Natural Resources from Development and Encouraging Related Private Investment.”

“The Memorandum is another attempt by this Administration to usurp Congress’ constitutional authority over the public lands.” said Laura Skaer, AEMA Executive Director.

The hearing will begin at 10 am (EST), and can be viewed on the U.S. Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources website at: www.energy.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/live-webcast. The Committee is chaired by Senator Lisa Murkowski (R) of Alaska and includes ranking member Senator Maria Cantwell (D) of Washington State.

Skaer added “We believe this is another example of regulatory overreach by the Obama administration. The mitigation standards in the Memorandum conflict with and exceed the statutory standards and requirements enacted by congress and will make it harder to explore for and produce the minerals America requires.”

American Exploration & Mining Association (AEMA) is a 121-year old, 2,200 member national association representing the minerals industry with members residing in 42 U.S. states, seven Canadian provinces or territories, and 10 other countries. AEMA is the recognized national voice for exploration, the junior mining sector, and maintaining access to public lands, and represents the entire mining life cycle, from exploration to reclamation and closure.
